Long Range Planning

Our first two kick-off meetings for Long Range Planning were held on October 11 and 27, 2022.

In the first committee meeting held on October 11, members were provided presentations on District Demographics by a representative from Plante Moran Cresa, sharing the data from the Pupil Enrollment Projection Study Report for 2022-2026, originally presented to the Board of Education in January 2022.

Members of the Royal Oak Schools central office team shared Current Schools and Programs, Staffing trends and statistics, Finance, including how schools are funded, and a snapshot of our revenues and expenses.

The second meeting focused on the state of transportation in Royal Oak Schools and our safety plans and responses. Our major facility partners presented an overview of work to date and potential projects including building envelope (brick and mortar upkeep), roofing, pavement, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and architecture (flooring, doors, windows, ceilings, and kitchens).

Going forward, we will circulate surveys, provide periodic updates and presentations at open school board meetings via video messages or emails, and conduct discussions and updates at other stakeholder gatherings such as PTA, Chamber of Commerce, and InterClub Council meetings, as allowed. You can expect to also hear from the district regularly through articles in our District Dispatch Newsletter, on our website, in community publications, and via social media.  If not already, please remember to like us and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. You can sign up to receive our District Dispatch newsletter by going to the district website www.royaloakschools.org and clicking on “Subscribe to eNews.”

The long-range planning process will be conducted throughout the 2022-23 school year and yield a strategic plan for the district by the end of the school year. If you wish to join our formal committee that will meet throughout the year, please contact the superintendent’s office at 248-435-8400, ext. 1228, or send an email to Paula Sutterfield, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, at [email protected]

Together, we will be able to build a plan for our children, keeping the public schools at the heart of this amazing community.

The next full committee meeting is November 30, 2022, when we will begin visioning and exploring options for students. I will also be meeting with high school students to get their perspectives on the future of the district, what has served them well, and what we should look forward to changing or updating for the next generation of students.
