Royal Oak Schools recognized Alyssa Reimold at Thursday’s board of education meeting for being named Oakland County’s Teacher of the Year for 2020. Reimold only recently learned about recognition. She was honored as Royal Oak Schools High School Teacher of the Year in 2020 and was nominated for the county award, however, the pandemic hit, and Oakland Schools along with Oakland County decided not to present the award.

Sheri Stuart, Director of Communication Services for Oakland Schools says that she can confirm that Reimold was selected to receive the award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year 2020. Reimold was selected for this award in accordance with the criteria outlined here -- https://www.oakland.k12.mi.us/educators/otoy.

“Because of the pandemic, a formal recognition ceremony was not held in 2020,” Stuart said. “We resumed our formal recognition ceremony in April 2022 and opted to hand deliver plaques to the winners who did not receive recognition in 2020.”

Mrs. Fitzpatrick honored Reimold at the October 13, 2022 board meeting. She said to Reimold, “Thank you for all of your service to Royal Oak Schools, we’re so proud that you have earned this and the recognition from the county is special but we always knew it.”

Ms. Reimold is proud of the honor and said that it’s a pretty prestigious award. “Even though this is rewarded to me, I could not do this without all of my amazing colleagues, and awesome community, and a super supportive board of education. So thank you for that.” She also thanked Royal Oak Schools and said, “thank you for letting me do the work that I love in a place that I love.” Reimold is now one of the Assistant Principals at Royal Oak High School.
