Ashley Phillips joins Royal Oak Schools as the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator.
Originally a Detroit native, Phillips earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education, at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She has taught thousands of students over the past 17 years, ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through College. Bringing a wealth of educational experience as a former Supplemental Instructor for Wayne State University, and Music Educator for Norfolk Public Schools, Phillips most recently served as an educator and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Teacher Leader for Berkley Schools.
Along with over a decade and a half of hands-on experience in the classroom, Phillips also has engaged in extensive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training and courses with reputable leaders-- including Dr. Jay Marks, Dr. Bryant Marks and Dr. Adolph Brown, III.
Phillips takes pride in being a voice for all children--on and off the stage. She believes that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. Leading with empathy, audience analysis, and effective communication, Phillips plans to assist in continuing to move Royal Oak Schools forward as an admirable community of excellence. She affirms that positive relationship-building is the center of success for everyone involved, and is excited to collaborate with the students, staff, and community to drive this work forward.
