Royal Oak Middle School is proud to announce that UMatter Week has been recognized with a 2025 Education Excellence Award, a prestigious honor presented by the SET SEG Foundation in partnership with the Michigan Association of School Boards.
Selected as one of just 10 winners across Michigan, this recognition highlights the school’s commitment to student mental health and well-being.
As part of the award, Royal Oak Middle School will receive a $2,500 grant, an Education Excellence Award Winner roadside sign, and a commemorative trophy, celebrating the impact of UMatter Week on students and the school community.
UMatter Week is an annual initiative designed to promote mental and emotional well-being among students. Each day of the week is dedicated to a different theme—self-care, empathy, kindness, mindfulness, and gratitude—with engaging activities such as workshops and assemblies to help students explore these important topics. The program thrives through collaboration with mental health professionals, community organizations, and parents, ensuring that students have meaningful opportunities to engage in open dialogue and personal growth.
