THE RADIUM GIRLS

Tickets are on sale now for the play, Radium Girls, put on by the Royal Oak High School Drama Club. "Radium Girls" is a play in two acts based on a true story. It traces the efforts of dial painter Grace Fryer (played by ROHS Junior Paige Clark) as she fights for her day in court. Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but also with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.

Called a "powerful" and "engrossing" drama by critics, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.

"Although the show is set in the early 20th century, it speaks volumes to our current moment in history," said ROHS Drama Club Director Matt Harmon. "The students involved in the production were immediately clued into the show's thoughtful meditations on the balance between science and economic output and have done wonders with the source material. They read books on the historical figures they're representing, researching how best to portray this time period, and mine every single line for its potency. I couldn't be more proud of their work."

Radium Girls includes a cast and crew of over 70 Royal Oak High School students; from actors, dancers, singers, and musicians to student leaders working backstage on stage management, stage crew, set construction, lights, sound, props, and publicity. Go to www.rodrama.com for a complete company list and to purchase tickets.

The public is invited to three shows: Friday, March 11th at 7 PM, Saturday, March 12th at 7 PM, and Sunday, March 13th at 2 PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
