The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, is coming to Royal Oak as part of a Return to School Road Trip on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Biden will join the U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, and Congressman Andy Levin at Oakland Community College (OCC) in Royal Oak, according to a release. The event is described as a five-state bus tour intended to highlight students and communities that are returning to in-person learning in a safe manner.

The Royal Oak High School Drum line has been invited to be part of the event.

Band Instructor, Dave Jensen, explained that the White House called him and asked the group to do two performances, one outside and one inside. He said they wanted the drum line there to add school spirit and create a fun atmosphere for the event.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the school and our drum line," said Jensen. "We hope to create the atmosphere that they want, and we're just happy to be there."

Jensen was told to be at OCC by 11 AM but nothing else.

The Royal Oak High School drum line consists of 11 students between 9th and 12th grade.
