Megan Henry - Royal Oak High School's Science Dept. Chair and Girls Varsity Golf Coach has been awarded the Regional Girls Golf Coach of the Year!

Henry said that this award is voted on by coaches in our region. "This is my first time receiving the award," she added.

Henry has been coaching for 7 years. "I was the boys and girls coach in Novi for three years before coming to Royal Oak, where I coach the Varsity Girls team and the JV Boys team. My team in Novi was D1 State Runners Up in 2017. My teams have been Academic All-State Teams every year that I have been a coach," she said.

Mark Posey, the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association (MIGCA) Secretary said this about Megan: "This is a tremendous honor, reflective of the dedication and passion that your coach has for your girl's golf program. It also goes without saying that your coach has put in countless hours of hard work to develop such a successful program and to grow the game of golf among young girls."

Interim Director of Athletics and Activities, Brian Gordon, echoed that praise. "Megan has done an outstanding job of building our girl's golf program and her commitment to our student-athletes has not gone unnoticed," he said. "She is an extremely hard worker who cares very deeply about the well-being of all of her kids, not only in the classroom but also on the golf course."

Megan Henry said that she started playing competitively in high school and was a first-team all-state golfer at Novi High School in 2010. She then went to Lake Superior State on a college golf scholarship where she played D2 college golf from 2011-2014.

Henry will be honored at the 2022 MIGCA Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet at Treetops in Gaylord in August of 2022.

"We are extremely happy for Megan to receive this honor," added Gordon.
