Welcome to Northwood Elementary

At a special meeting hosted August 13, 2019, Jennifer Knipper was approved by the Board of Education as the new principal for Northwood Elementary.

The qualities we were looking for in Northwood’s future principal are the same that Royal Oak seeks in all candidates: a passion for working with our youth, a differentiated background of experiences in the field of education, compassion and strong leadership skills,” Mary Beth Fitzpatrick, Superintendent, said. “Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge working with elementary students and families. She will not only be an asset to the Northwood community but also to our administrative team serving Royal Oak Schools.”

Knipper has been an elementary principal in the Waterford School District for the past four years, where she helped improve achievement and implement Restorative Practices. Prior to being an administrator, Knipper taught kindergarten, first grade and third grade.

“I’ve heard wonderful things about Royal Oak, Northwood and the staff at the school, and I am excited to be a part of this community,” Knipper said. “The kids are the reason I come to work every day, and there is no better job than to be working with children. It's always fun to see them in the classroom and be alongside them as they learn and grow.”

Knipper holds a Master of Public Administration/Educational Administration degree, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a State of Michigan Administrator certificate. Former Northwood principal Angela Ashburn has been named as the new early childhood program director.
