Safe Routes To Schools

The City of Royal Oak, in collaboration with all schools, is making plans to seek an MDOT Safe Routes to School Major grant in 2026.   This grant has the potential to provide significant funding to the City and the District for programs and infrastructure, if approved. The grant program, which promotes healthy and safe movement for children, requires the next several months to be spent collecting data and surveying the city's streets, crosswalks, and routes that children may take to walk, bike, or roll to school.

Here are a few other guidelines:

  • Families with more than one child in the same school can take the survey more than once.
  • Only students in grades 3 through 12 should take the student survey.
  • If you have children in more than one school, you should receive separate emails.
  • The survey links are building-specific, so please follow the links provided to you in the email.
Our City/Schools planning team appreciates your participation in this endeavor. As details of the potential grant application develop next school year, you can expect to hear from us again with updates.
