Royal Oak Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of Jason Taylor as the new principal of Oakland Elementary. The vote was unanimous at the April 13 board meeting. Taylor will fill the vacancy when Sam Lynch retires from Royal Oak Schools on June 30, 2023.
“We are very excited to have Jason transition to this new position in our district,” said Mary Beth Fitzpatrick, Superintendent of Royal Oak Schools. “Mr. Taylor is highly honored and excited about this new opportunity.”
Since 1997, Jason Taylor has served Royal Oak Schools as a teacher at ROMS, Keller Middle School, and Starr Elementary. He has also been the district Math Coordinator and Math Improvement Co-chair since 2012 and the MTSS coordinator at Oakland since 2010. He was also Interim Principal at Oakland during the 2020-21 school year when Mr. Lynch was on leave.
Taylor has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University. He is a certified Math Recovery teacher, participated in the Oakland Schools Aspiring Principals' Leadership Academy, and recently has been an active member of our Long Range Planning Committee.
“We are all very proud to have Mr. Taylor join our Royal Oak Schools Leadership team and serve the community he loves in this new role,” Fitzpatrick said. “Mr. Taylor will work with Mr. Lynch over the next few months to transition into the principalship.”
Taylor will assume the roles and responsibilities at Oakland effective July 1, 2023.
