Community Update From The Superintendent
Posted on 12/02/2021

Dear Royal Oak Families,

You may have seen media reports this morning of school districts and high schools closing today due to threats posted on social media. At this time, while working with the Royal Oak Police Department, we are not planning on closing. We have asked our students to report things they see and hear, and they are doing so. We have investigated social media posts thoroughly and we have no credible threats. We will continue to monitor social media channels and any other information we receive.

We take all threats seriously and out of an abundance of caution, we will continue to have our public safety officers increase their patrols in and around our buildings for the rest of this week. Threats against our schools or students will not be tolerated and we will use all resources to impose consequences for such intolerable behavior.

Please remember if you or your children see or hear anything that causes you concern, please share that information with a trusted adult. Additionally, you should be aware of the state-wide tip line, OK2SAY. OK2SAY encourages confidential tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, or schools. Their phone number is 855-565-2729 (8-555-OK2SAY). Their text number is 652729 (OK2SAY) and their email is [email protected]. Speaking up can make a difference.

As a community, we will process the Oxford tragedy in a variety of ways. I am grateful for the partnership with the Royal Oak Police and will continue to be in touch with them on a regular basis. Our administrators and staff are also fully available to our students during this uncertain time.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Fitzpatrick
